PECAN PIE
Michael, the man behind Man-Made Pies

Before the website, before the blue ribbon, and before I started arguing with myself about the perfect pie crust, there was pecan pie.
Like a lot of people, I started baking more during COVID. What began as a simple goal to make a better pecan pie quickly turned into an obsession. I tested different sweeteners, crusts, baking temperatures, and techniques. Friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers became willing taste-testers. Spreadsheets were created. Notes were taken. More pies were baked than I care to admit.
Eventually, one of those pies earned First Place at the 2024 Maryland State Fair.
That blue ribbon became the foundation of Man-Made Pies.
What Makes These Pecan Pies Different?
Most traditional pecan pie recipes rely heavily on corn syrup. While there's nothing wrong with that approach, I wanted something with a little more balance.
My pecan pie recipes use:
Toasted pecans for deeper flavor
Agave syrup for a smoother sweetness
Brown sugar for rich caramel notes
A flaky homemade crust
Plenty of real butter and vanilla
The result is a pecan pie that's rich and satisfying without being overly sweet.
The Original: Blue Ribbon Classic Pecan Pie
This is the recipe that earned First Place at the Maryland State Fair.
Made with toasted pecans, agave syrup, brown sugar, and a flaky homemade crust, it's the pie that launched Man-Made Pies.

The Grown-Up Version: Bourbon Pecan Pie
The bourbon variation starts with the same award-winning foundation and adds a generous pour of bourbon for extra depth and warmth.
The bourbon doesn't overpower the pie. Instead, it enhances the caramel flavors and toasted pecans, making it a favorite for Thanksgiving, Friendsgiving, and holiday gatherings.

The Decadent One: Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie
Somewhere along the way, I wondered what would happen if I combined pecan pie, dark chocolate, and bourbon.
The answer was this pie.
Rich dark chocolate, bourbon, and toasted pecans come together in a decadent twist on the classic recipe that's perfect for holidays, special occasions, or whenever chocolate sounds like a good idea.

Baking for Two?
Not every pie needs to feed a crowd. Some of my favorite pie nights involve two forks, two plates, and no leftovers.
That's why I created smaller 6-inch versions of my pecan pies. They're perfect for date nights, small gatherings, or anyone who loves homemade pie but doesn't want leftovers for a week.

Which One Should You Bake First?
If you're new to Man-Made Pies, start with the Blue Ribbon Classic Pecan Pie. It's the recipe that started everything and remains my favorite.
If you're a bourbon fan, move on to the Bourbon Pecan Pie.
If you're looking to impress someone, bake the Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie.
And if you're only feeding two people, the 6-inch versions are hard to beat.
No matter which one you choose, you'll be baking the recipes that built Man-Made Pies one slice at a time.
